History of EACH
The Educational Accessibility for Children in Hardship (EACH) is a non-profit organization registered in the state of North Carolina in the United States of America. The name EACH was adopted from what began as a service project in May 2003 at Davidson College, in North Carolina by a Ghanaian student, Emmanuel Amos-Abanyie. The focus of EACH was to sponsor three underprivileged children in Ghana through Junior High School and establish a mentoring relationship with the children involved. Funding for the service project was made possible through the generosity of a group of Davidson students committed to the provision of quality education and a Staley grant from the office of the Chaplain at Davidson.
In 2003, Franklin Adatsi, a Ghanaian student at Brown University and his friends were involved with a project to improve the poor library facilities in their high school to a standard that would enhance student learning and also to institute a mentorship program.
In the true spirit of these projects, we wanted to expand our reach to meet the needs of more children. We strongly felt that by combining and expanding our vision, our projects will have a greater impact on the lives of talented and underprivileged children in Africa by increasing children’s accessibility to quality education. To ensure that children have a rich academic experience, a mentorship program was instituted to further motivate and inspire them. EACH was formed to be that big umbrella under which we hope to achieve our mission: Providing access to quality education for EACH child in Africa.
In our view, access to education is a fundamental human right for EACH child. Furthermore, for highly talented children, the lack of educational accessibility is a big loss to society. Education is critical to the development of nations. We hope that through our modest efforts, we would create opportunities for students to further develop their talents and contribute towards the development of nations.
